So long, Farewell – Sony Cassette Player

“After retiring the floppy disk in March, Sony has halted the manufacture and distribution of another now-obsolete technology: the cassette Walkman, the first low-cost, portable music player.”

Wow a classic being laid to rest. I wonder if I still have one in the attic?

Some networks say NO to Google TV

“Google TV is one of the more high-profile attempts in recent history by the tech industry to marry the PC-based Internet and the traditional television world.”

Denied!!!

So we’re only talking about the streaming of full episodes to Google TV. Users can still access shows through the live broadcasts…interesting approach from the networks. ABC is concerned that Google isn’t blocking sites with pirated versions of programming…hello ABC this is the web, Google is only querying what’s out there…you may need to go after the pirated sites yourself.

Hey Google, I’d love for you to send me a test model!

Check those cell phone bills

“Given the news about Verizon Wireless overcharging its customers by about $50 million, mobile phone users may be smart to examine their bills more closely”

We would always want to feel that dealing with a big name company, we will not be subject to fraud, however, with Verizon recently announcing refunds to many clients due to charges for ‘bogus’ data fees, I felt this post was needed.

To all personal responsibility is required…Verizon you were wrong and I’m glad you are making amends. But to those that also received the charges…umm, look at your bill. I notice any fluctuation in my bill and I do ask questions. Take a read…know your rights.

Blackberry enters the Tablet arena

“BlackBerry maker Research in Motion unveiled the PlayBook, a tablet computer, at a developer conference Monday.”

Enter another tablet in the market…The Playbook from RIM

RIM has always had its foot in the business market. I would be interested to see how business oriented this device is.  One draw-back to this announcement in my eyes is the fact a 3G/4G model isn’t ready…that is a must now. Don’t hand me information in chucks…wow me from the start.

Interesting specs for the device…reminds me of my smartphone (with a bigger screen).

Yet another operating systems also…just need to get my hands on one to check it out.

The Ultimate Grill?

“Why choose between a wood grill, a charcoal grill and a gas grill when you can …have the best of all worlds?”

Ok, so I love to grill; doesn’t matter the time of day or the season of the year. Charcoal is my grilling method of choice, but I’ve used all variations except infrared (yes infrared grills).

I’ve been debating on getting a new grill for the house. Searching around the net, I came across the Kalamazoo. I don’t have a rich uncle that I know of…so if anyone is feeling generous…

Check out Notepad++

Here’s a little tool that I have found very helpful. I have a friend who is taking programming classes and he asked me for assistance. Not having programmed in years, I wanted to clean up his code (Thanks Clemson for pushing structure and commenting of code).

I also had to use this program to clean up html code from an old website.

After searching the web, Notepad++ was found, installed, and greatly appreciated. Open your code here, tell the program what language your coding in, and color coding/key word recognition goes to work.

Check it out!

FCC heralds a new era of ‘super Wi-Fi’

“The spectrum allows signals to travel further, to go through walls, to [transfer] more information — so it’s very robust,” he said in an interview with CNN.com. “Super Wi-Fi has extraordinary potential. What’s as exciting is we have a new platform for innovation and we can’t anticipate what will happen next”

Apple & Adobe…Together?

“I am ecstatic that competition from Android is forcing Apple to make the iPhone a more competitive, more open, and therefore better platform for users and developers,”

Ok, I’m a fan of open source development (reason I like Google products), but after all the tid bits back and forth, it seems that Apple may have finally seen the light. This announcement that “Apple is loosening its grip on its app development for its mobile devices” may finally mean that flash application/games could be coming to Apple products.

A case of the customer’s always right perhaps? Or maybe the flood on Android products? Whatever the reason this is exciting news.

Google Instant

“It’s not a search as you type, it’s a search before you type”

From fast to faster. Google prides itself on its search engine and a few months ago, introduced its new search index Caffeine. Today, Google has taken search to newer height with the announcement of Google Instant, a “predictive, real-time search results.”

My first take, it seems like auto-complete on steroids! I’ve tried typing song lyrics, old book titles, and sports players…information is displayed in record time. Listening to the live broadcast of the announcement, one of the questions regarding making it even faster! I will not even begin to image this thing faster than it is.

Two thumbs up at Google
